Pilgrimage through Poland

Day 1

Warsaw

The tour will lead through the Warsaw churches: the Neo-Renaissance Church of St. Anne, the Church of the Holy Cross (where the heart of Frederic Chopin is buried) and St. John’s Archcathedral, which is one of the oldest churches in Warsaw, as well as one of the most important places of the Polish tradition and culture (destroyed during the Second World War and then rebuilt).

Day 2

Licheń

The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Licheń, there is an image of Our Lady famous for its graces. It is a pilgrimage centre of nationwide importance. At present, it is the largest church in Poland. In the place of worship, apart from the Basilica, there is also St. Dorothy’s Church and a 25 metre high stone mountain (the so-called Golgotha​​) on the top of which there is a cross and figures of Our Lady and St. John. On the Golgotha are ​​located Stations of the Cross and a number of artificial caverns with chapels.

Day 3

Niepokalanów

A tour of the Franciscan Monastery and the Museum of St. Maximilian Kolbe, the monk who sacrificed his life to save a prisoner in a concentration camp at Auschwitz.

Częstochowa

Popular destination of pilgrimages from all over the world, known mainly for the Jasna Góra Monastery of the 14th century and a famous painting of the Black Madonna of the 6th century. A tour of the complex of the Pauline Monastery with the Gothic Chapel of Our Lady of Częstochowa, the Basilica, the Treasury, the Way of the Cross and fortifications. The opportunity to participate in the Mass and time for personal prayer and contemplation.

Day 4

Krakow

Visiting the most important monuments in Krakow, as well as places associated with the life of Pope Saint John Paul II – the Royal Cathedral on the Wawel Hill where he celebrated his first Mass as a priest, the Jagiellonian University where he studied literature, the Bishop’s Palace at 3 Franciszkańska Street (with the famous papal window), the Museum of the Archdiocese of Krakow at 21 Kanonicza Street, where Karol Wojtyła used to live when he was a bishop and the Church of St Michael the Archangel and St Stanislaus the Bishop and Martyr at Skałka, with the Crypt of the Distinguished, where the Pope met young people during his first pilgrimage.
A visit to the Rakowicki Cemetery, where there is the grave of Karol Wojtyła’s parents.
The Sanctuary of Divine Mercy, associated with the cult of St. Faustina Kowalska.

Day 5

Ludźmierz

The oldest Catholic parish in Podhale, which was visited by Karol Wojtyła when he was a bishop and pope. There is the Shrine of Our Lady Queen of Podhale with a 15th-century figure. Adjacent to the sanctuary, there is the Rosary Garden, beautifully landscaped and maintained, with the monument of John Paul II.

Day 6

The Sanctuary of Kalwaria Zebrzydowska

The Bernardine Monastery with the Church of Our Lady of the Angels is entered in the UNESCO List of World Heritage Sites. The church is linked to chapels scattered among the hills, which were frequently visited by Karol Wojtyła.

Wadowice

The birthplace of Karol Wojtyła, where you can visit the Basilica of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, in which he was baptised, as well as his family house.
